Overview

Chompy kills are the slowest part of the Western Provinces diary and the only route to the ogre bow set. Cavero Chompy Killer runs the whole loop: fill the bellows at the swamp bubbles, inflate a swamp toad, lay it on a spawn tile, and shoot the chompy that comes for it.

Highlights

  • Walks to the Feldip swamp on its own — start it anywhere
  • Lays each toad on the spawn tile nearest you
  • Kill count read from your ogre bow and re-verified every 30–50 kills
  • Optional stop after X kills target
  • Hops worlds when another hunter settles on your patch
  • Toad spots randomised per session, so no two accounts lay the same pattern

What you need to bring

Bring it all with you — the plugin does not bank

There is no bank within reach of the swamp, so the plugin never banks and never restocks. Whatever is in your inventory when you press START is what the session runs on.

  • Big Chompy Bird Hunting completed — without it you cannot use the bellows or fire ogre arrows.
  • Ogre bellows in your inventory. Bring several: each one holds three charges, and one charge inflates one toad. The plugin refills empty bellows at the swamp bubbles, so a handful lasts a long session — but it cannot conjure more if you brought none.
  • An ogre bow or comp ogre bow, plus ogre arrows or brutal arrows. Arrows are the usual limit on session length — bring plenty, and pick them back up yourself if you want to stretch a trip.
A plain ogre bow only fires brutal arrows up to mithril; adamant and rune brutal need the comp ogre bow.
  • A loadout set for your character — see below.

Quick start

  1. Put your bellows, bow and arrows in your inventory.
  2. Enable the plugin. The command center opens by itself; reopen it any time with the Open Command Center button in the plugin's config panel.
  3. Set your loadout on the Loadout tab (see below). This is per character, so each account needs it once.
  4. Optional — set a kill target on the Settings tab.
  5. Press START. The plugin begins paused on purpose. From anywhere in the game it walks to the Feldip swamp and starts hunting.

Setting your loadout

The Loadout tab holds the gear the plugin should be wearing. It is saved per character and edited inside the command center — there is no separate window.

  1. Open the command center and go to Loadout.
  2. Add your ogre bow (or comp ogre bow) to the equipment slots — this is the one piece that genuinely matters, since without it there is nothing to shoot a chompy with.
  3. Add anything else you want worn, then Save.

It equips from your inventory only

If a piece of the loadout is missing it is worn from the inventory when it turns up. If it is not in your inventory at all, the plugin warns once and carries on — a missing side-item should not stop you inflating toads.

Only the Ranged kit is used; melee and magic are hidden, because chompy hunting has no style to switch to. Food thresholds and bank settings are hidden too, for the same reason — there is nothing here to bank for.

How the loop works

Nothing is on a script or a timer — each step is chosen by what is actually in front of you, so the plugin picks up correctly from wherever you start it:

  1. Not in the swamp? Walk there. This is the one long journey the plugin makes.
  2. A chompy in sight? Shoot it. Birds despawn on their own, so this outranks everything else.
  3. Carrying a bloated toad? Take it to the empty spawn tile nearest you and drop it. After each one it picks the next nearest, so it is never walking further than it has to.
  4. Under the toad cap with charged bellows? Inflate another swamp toad. It carries at most three — beyond that they are dead weight.
  5. Bellows empty? Refill them at the swamp bubbles.

Your toad spots are yours

The plugin ships with a set of known-good spawn tiles, and each session it nudges a random selection of them by a square — checking the new square is walkable and reachable first. Two accounts running the plugin never lay their toads on exactly the same pattern.

The kill count

The total comes from your ogre bow — the same Check you would do yourself. The plugin asks once at startup, then adds each kill as the chat line arrives, and re-checks against the bow every 30–50 kills.

Why re-check at all?

Between checks the running figure is an estimate — the per-kill message can be missed. The bow is always the authority, so any drift is corrected within a few dozen kills and the number you see is the number Rantz will agree with.

The dashboard shows both: the confirmed total, and how many kills have been counted since the last confirmation.

Stopping at a target

Set Maximum total kills on the Settings tab (0 = no limit). Useful targets:

  • 125 — Western Provinces hard diary
  • 300 — elite diary
  • 1,000 — the full ogre bow / chompy hat set

This is your LIFETIME total, not this session's

The bow reports a career total, which is what the diary and the hat rewards are counted in. Set the number you want to reach overall, not the number you want to kill today.

On reaching the target the plugin confirms the count on the bow before stopping, so a missed kill message cannot stop you early.

Other players

The patch is contended: a shared pool of swamp toads, one set of bubbles and a fixed set of spawn tiles. Another hunter does not merely halve your rate — they take the toads you inflated and shoot the birds you baited.

With Hop when another player arrives enabled (the default, on the Settings tab), the plugin leaves for a fresh world when someone settles on your patch.

It waits ten seconds first

There is a cave beside the swamp that players walk in and out of, and those passers-by cost you nothing. The plugin only treats someone as competition if they are still there ten seconds later — so it does not spend the session in the world hopper.

The hop waits out the game's post-combat cooldown, so it can take a few seconds after a kill before it goes through.

Configuration reference

Almost everything lives in the command center. The plugin's config panel holds a single button.

  • Open Command Center (config panel) — reopens the plugin window if you closed it
  • Loadout (command center → Loadout) — the gear to wear, saved per character
  • Maximum total kills (Settings, default 0) — stop once the bow reports this lifetime total; 0 disables it
  • Hop when another player arrives (Settings, default on) — world-hop when someone else settles on the patch
  • START / PAUSE (command center header) — the plugin starts paused and waits for you

What it deliberately doesn't do

  • It doesn't bank or restock. There is no bank within reach of the spawn tiles, so a supply trip would be a long walk to solve a problem only you can fix by bringing more. Take enough arrows and bellows for the session you want.
  • It doesn't pick your arrows back up. Arrows on the ground stay there.
  • It doesn't fight anything but chompies. Nothing else in the swamp is worth the arrows.

Troubleshooting

Nothing happens after I enable it

The plugin starts paused by design. Open the command center and press START.

It's walking to the swamp very slowly, or stops on the way

Long routes are walked in stages and can pass through your player-owned house — that is the walker doing its job, not a stall. Open the Console tab: the plugin logs every leg of the journey.

It isn't inflating toads

Check you are carrying ogre bellows and that they have charges — the plugin refills empty ones at the bubbles, but it needs at least one bellows to start with. It also stops inflating at three carried toads, which is normal.

The kill count looks wrong

Between checks it is an estimate; the bow is re-checked every 30–50 kills and any drift is corrected then. If the count never appears at all, make sure an ogre bow or comp ogre bow is worn or in your inventory — that is where the number comes from.

It keeps hopping worlds

Somebody is settling on your patch for more than ten seconds at a time. You can turn Hop when another player arrives off on the Settings tab if you would rather share.
